About OPIS Calculator

What is OPIS?

OPIS (Outcome Prediction In Subfertility) is a comprehensive calculator system designed to help predict IVF success rates based on various patient characteristics and treatment factors.

OPIS calculates your chance of having a baby at three points in your IVF journey: before starting your first ever IVF treatment, at the time of your first embryo transfer, and before starting your second complete cycle (or round) of treatment.

All three OPIS calculators were developed using patient and treatment data from all IVF cycles carried out in the UK from 1999 to 2009. All personal identifying information was removed before being used in the creation of the tools.

This information was obtained from the Human Fertilisation and Embryological Authority (HFEA) who collect and store data on all licensed fertility treatments in the UK.

The calculators were recently validated using HFEA data from 2010-2017 and have been updated. You can read more about the development and validation of these calculators in our journal articles: OPIS Pre and Post IVF, their validation, and OPIS-2.

What is a complete cycle?

A complete cycle means all fresh and frozen-thawed embryo transfers resulting from one episode of ovarian stimulation.

How It Works

The OPIS system uses statistical models to analyze patient data and provide personalised predictions for IVF success rates. The three different calculators are designed for different stages of the IVF journey.

Disclaimer

The OPIS calculator is an evidence-based tool, but it is not a substitute for clinical advice from a specialist. The predictions from the calculator are based on historical data and may not be accurate for an individual patient.
